Blogging About Blogging – Part I
According to Technorati‘s last State of the Blogosphere report, there were over 70 million blogs on the web as of April 2007. In addition, there are over 70 million blog posts about what blogs are and why you should have one. Alright, we made up that last statistic, but there really are a vast number of such posts. (Try this Google blog search: “What is a blog?“)

A corporate blog is a place to write about news and events particular to your company and/or industry. Some benefits of blogging are:
- Stickiness – Whether you update your blog once a day, once a week, or once a month, chances are it’ll be updated more often than the rest of your web site. This gives your readers an incentive to check back and visit your site more often.
- Search Engines Love Blogs – Having regularly updated content on your web site is also a good way to get the major search engines’ web indexing robots to visit more often.
- Communication – An integral part of blogging is the comment feature. Readers can use comments to respond to what you’ve written—opening another channel for communication with your clients and potential clients.
- A Human Face for Your Company – The more one-on-one, colloquial tone often used for blogging helps give a human face to your corporation—one that many clients and potential clients may not have seen before.
As you can see, there are some very good reasons for blogging. Of course, when deciding if blogging is right for you, you’ll have to weigh these advantages against your ability to keep a blog updated with fresh content.
In part two of this topic, we’ll provide some practical tips on starting a blog. As usual, if you have any comments or questions, feel free to comment on this post or contact us.
